New York Climate Week was an inspiring convergence of activists, business leaders, and community champions, all united by a common goal: addressing the urgent realities of climate change. Across the week, I attended a series of impactful events, each offering unique insights into the fight for a sustainable future. Below are the key highlights and my personal reflections on this dynamic experience.
The Nest Climate Campus: Exploring the Future of Green Jobs
The Nest Climate Campus spanned three energy-filled days, offering a whirlwind of quick-hit panel discussions and thought-provoking presentations.
A standout was the Green Jobs Pavilion, which provided a rich resource for individuals eager to pivot into climate-focused careers.
One of my favorite panel discussions during the three-day event was based on the foods we consume and how we grow them. The talk, moderated by Executive Director of Project Drawdown, Dr. Jonathan Foley, was informative and data driven.
The premiere of The White Buffalo: An American Prophecy was another captivating moment, blending environmental stewardship and cultural resilience.
While some areas could have benefited from a deeper dive into the complexities of climate solutions, the Campus overall successfully laid the groundwork for future discussions on ways to move forward toward net zero.
Bridging the Gap: Business and Community Partnerships for Climate Justice
This event was exceptionally well-organized and right up my alley as someone who is interested in climate justice. It discussed how businesses can partner with communities to promote climate justice.
With organizations like Forum for the Future and B Lab U.S. & Canada sharing their co-published Business Guide to Advancing Climate Justice, the session provided actionable steps for companies to take.
Project Drawdown’s Drawdown’s Neighborhood docuseries added a compelling visual narrative, followed by a panel featuring Seventh Generation, Save the Sound, Plantega, Consciously and TREEage, all working together for climate solutions.
Participants explored the role of businesses in supporting underserved communities—especially those most impacted by climate change, such as coastal, agricultural, and urban areas near industrial facilities. These communities face economic hardship, displacement, and health issues, and this session underscored the need for collaboration between businesses and frontline communities to bridge the gap and create meaningful climate solutions.

Love & Rage: Narrating Our New Extreme Weather Reality
"Love & Rage" was an emotionally powerful event that explored the personal and societal impacts of climate disasters. Journalists, survivors, and social media influencers shared stories that went beyond the data, emphasizing the human toll of extreme weather.
The event featured insights from TILT (The Influencer Lab for Tomorrow), Fossil Free Media, and Cuíca, on how creators can link climate disasters to the fossil fuel companies driving the crisis. The day ended with a happy hour celebrating the launch of TILT, a new network supporting content creators in speaking out on climate change.

Terra.do Social: Uniting Climate Change Advocates
The Terra.do Social was a definite highlight of the week, bringing together over 20 passionate individuals from Terra.do’s community. You can feel the energy of attendees who shared a commitment to driving climate action. Anshuman Bapna, Terra.do’s founder, was in attendance, adding a personal and motivational element to the evening.
The event was more than just a networking opportunity; it was a space to bond with like-minded individuals committed to finding practical solutions to the climate crisis. The synergy in the room was undeniable, leaving me with a sense of excitement about the future collaborations that will undoubtedly stem from these connections.

Creative Industries NYC Climate Gathering
The Creative Industries NYC Climate Gathering brought together individuals in the creative sector, focusing on how communication can drive climate action. The event was hosted by Creatives for Climate Collective, Purpose Disruptors, and Clean Creatives, who joined forces to share their pioneering work in reshaping the creative industries to support a sustainable future.
Speakers like Rob McFaul, Co-founder of Purpose Disruptors, and Lucy Von-Sturmer, Founder of Creatives for Climate, discussed cleaning up the ad industry and building a global network of changemakers. Laura Comer from Clean Creatives added insights into their efforts to challenge high-polluting advertisers.
The gathering wasn’t just about talks—it also provided a great opportunity to network with like-minded creatives from advertising, cultural sectors, and beyond, all passionate about climate solutions.

Sustainable Stories: Exploring Climate, Food, and Culture Through Diverse Voices
Held on scenic Governors Island, Sustainable Stories was an intimate event that explored the intersection of climate, food, and culture. The gathering featured engaging breakout sessions, where speakers like Joseph Lee (Aquinnah Wampanoag writer), Caroline Saunders (freelance food and climate writer), and Jocelyn Germany (Farm School NYC) shared insights on topics ranging from indigenous journalism to climate-focused cuisine and urban agriculture. The event underscored the importance of diverse perspectives in shaping sustainable solutions.

The 2024 Marketplace of the Future: A Vision of What’s to Come
The crown jewel of New York Climate Week was undoubtedly The 2024 Marketplace of the Future. Held at Splashlight, a vibrant, art-filled space, this event showcased an impressive array of forward-thinking vendors and innovative solutions for a sustainable future. The atmosphere was electrifying, blending art, music, and climate action into a sensory experience that left everyone buzzing with ideas.
The panels were equally enlightening, with standout speakers like Seth Godwin discussing The Carbon Almanac: It’s Not Too Late, a must-read for anyone passionate about climate solutions. The event took an unexpected, delightful turn when Save the Humans brought in three amazing and hilarious comedians who had the crowd roaring—my face literally hurt from laughing so hard! Their humor added a refreshing, light-hearted element to the day, proving that even in the fight against climate change, we can find joy and connection through laughter.
The marketplace wasn’t just an event; it was an experience—complete with a live DJ, and a spectacular performance by Hila the Earth. I left with my mind buzzing and my calendar already marked for next year’s gathering, eager to continue learning and connecting with everyone from the U.S. to Australia.
